Our Lady J

Gospel for the Godless

Gospel for the Godless

New York legend Our Lady J performs the songs of Nine Inch Nails, Alanis Morissette and Dolly Parton, as well as her own original material, backed by The Pink Champagne Orchestra and The Train-To-Kill Gospel Choir. Our Lady J promises to bring gospel music into the 21st Century and expose it for what it was really meant to be... powerful, uplifting music for all humankind. Glorious and unmissable.

Our Lady J has, besides performing her regular concerts at The Zipper Factory in NYC, spent the past year performing with and accompanying Justin Bond in the acclaimed show Lustre (which she also music directed) – locally at PS 122 and the Abron’s Arts Center, and abroad at London’s Soho Theatre as well as the Queer Up North Festival in Manchester, England. Our Lady J has been performing regularly at The Zipper since July 2007, where she recently released her first EP, Our Lady J: Live From The Zipper Factory (recorded in October, ’07). Other performance credits include collaborations with NYC’s most colourful talents in hot spots including Alice Tulley Hall, Birdland, The Box, Carnegie Hall, CBGB’s, Feinstein’s at the Regency, Highline Ballroom, Joe’s Pub, The Kitchen, Radio City Music Hall and The Town Hall. As a pianist, she has accompanied the NYC Gay Men’s Chorus, American Ballet Theatre, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, and the Mark Morris Dance Group, where she was a featured performer in the MMDG Music Ensemble.

Backing Singers: The Dreams

The Dreams (Larry Hamilton, Rob Tucker, Jamaal Wilson) are thrilled to be here in London with the incomparable Our Lady J! The group is the result of three working actors living together in New York with a desire to sing music that they may not get the chance to do professionally. Their rendition of ‘At the Ballet’ caught the attention of a wide variety of people and led to many performances around town. The trio’s most recent appearances have included: Eli Bolin @ Ars Nova, Our Lady J: Left to Her Own Devices & The Gospel of Dolly 1 & 2, The Big Gay Variety Show (The Box Theater), Psycho Babble, Spotlight Cabaret Series: Songs for the Outsiders and Dance Numbers from Musicals You Haven’t Yet Heard Of, along with many other various performances. The Dreams can be found on Facebook and at: www.myspace.com/singing_dreams.

Train-To-Kill Gospel Choir is a scratch choir of singers formed and trained-to-kill for this unique performance.
